Honesdale, PA – Jim Donnelly, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Wayne Bank, is pleased to announce that Wayne Bank has supported the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties and the Canaan Christian Academy with a donation through the PennGift Foundation.

Jerry Birmelin, Managing Director for the PennGift Foundation accepted a check in the amount of $25,000 from Mr. Donnelly.

The PennGift Foundation is a partnering program for business and private school scholarships.  They are solely dedicated to helping private schools and their students throughout Pennsylvania.  PennGift’s Tax Credit Scholarship Organization initiative has provided millions of dollars to private schools from donors for more than 20 years.  The Scholarship Organization Tax Credit Programs Legislation was written in 2001 by two PennGift board members themselves. The PennGift Foundation offers valuable free services for schools that utilize PennGift as their scholarship organization.

“With this donation, Wayne Bank is able to support two local organizations who are doing wonderful to benefit our children,” stated Mr. Donnelly.  The programs of the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne counties and the Canaan Christian Academy help to ensure that every child is supported as they grow, develop, and learn in school.  Children are the foundation of our communities, and we couldn’t envision a better investment.”

The United Way of Wayne and Lackawanna counties works with a dedicated team of educators and community stakeholders to help better align Early Childhood Education and school districts while building a strong bridge for families to help ensure every child in our community is supported through all the stages of growth of and development.  They are an approved Pre-K Scholarship Organization by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.  Through their support, with the help of the community businesses, they turn their donations into Pre-K scholarships to help eligible families send their children to quality early learning centers to help prepare them for kindergarten and beyond.

The Canaan Christian Academy is known for its commitment to educate and train students to achieve their full potential in all facets of life.  They are located in Wayne County and are a private education school offering a curriculum for student’s Pre-K through twelfth grade.
