Honesdale, PA – Lewis J Critelli, President and Chief Executive Officer of Wayne Bank, is pleased to announce that the Bank will support the Greater Pike Community Foundation with a donation through the Educational Improvement Organization Program. The contribution will be used to fund special programs within the Delaware Valley School District.
Edson Whitney, Director of The Greater Pike Community Foundation, accepted a check in the amount of $9,000.00 Wayne Bank officers.
The gift was made possible as a result of the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program offered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, acting through the Department of Community and Economic Development.
“Wayne Bank is proud to continue our support of the Delaware Valley School District through the valuable work of the Greater Pike Community Foundation,” stated Mr. Critelli. “The District’s new after school STEM clubs are a wonderful opportunity for elementary school students to enrich their education in innovative and exciting ways, and we are pleased to contribute.”
The Greater Pike Community Foundation will use this contribution to help support the Delaware Valley School District’s (DVSD) STEM program. Standing for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, the STEM program brings innovative educational programming enhancements in these areas to students. In addition to current high school programs and new for this year, the Greater Pike grant will add hands-on STEM clubs after school for elementary school students. The advanced, innovative clubs will provide students with opportunities to experiment with their surroundings as a form of problem solving through coding using LEGO bricks, coding software, and curriculum relevant STEM challenges. Elementary students will become literate in coding and be prepared for future computer programming courses in middle and high school. The elementary school STEM/Science labs have also added equipment to provide hands-on learning experiences to promote student curiosity in the sciences and engineering. A LEGO simple machine, engineering, and robotics kits have added opportunities for students during science lessons, as well as after-school science clubs to explore hands-on learning.
The Greater Pike Community Foundation was created to enable generous individuals, families, and local businesses to maximize their charitable support through organized, targeted, long-term community philanthropy, providing a permanent and personal way to give back to the region.
